Lipscomb University awards Scouting scholarships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Lipscomb University in Nashville is offering scholarships to incoming freshmen who have earned top awards in Scouting programs.

The Scout Award is a $10,000 scholarship, given in $2,500 increments over four years.

To receive the scholarship, new freshmen who are accepted at Lipscomb must have earned one of three Boy Scout awards -- Eagle, Venturing Silver or Sea Scouting Quartermaster. Also accepted are Girl Scouts Gold Award or the American Heritage Girls' Stars and Stripes Award.

The scholarships apply to room and board fees at Lipscomb.

University President L. Randolph Lowry said what the youths have accomplished as Scouts demonstrated leadership, commitment and integrity that helps set the standard for their peers.

Applications are available through the university office of undergraduate admissions.
