Local coach suspended over testing irregularities

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A local high school coach was suspended over testing irregularities.

The Knox County School Board confirmed Thursday that Derek Rang, teacher and head football coach at Powell High School, was placed on administrative leave with pay on Wednesday, December 12.

An investigation was underway, looking at allegations of testing irregularities.

2012 was Rang's first year as head coach, and he lead the Powell High School Panthers to the state semi-finals. He replaced longtime head coach Matt Lowe.

Rang teaches Algebra and AP Statistics.
