EAST RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities in East Ridge have charged a man after a fire was set in an apartment building.
Police arrested 21-year-old Thomas Shirley on charges of aggravated arson, attempted murder, reckless endangerment and auto theft. An apartment at Spring Creek Gardens was set on fire early Tuesday.
Carol Bearden told WTVC-TV she has known Shirley since he was 12 and said he is mentally ill. Bearden said she wouldn't let Shirley into her apartment Monday night because he was on drugs.
After an apartment was set afire, a resident's car was stolen and crashed nearby.
