JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- Jackson Police are investigating the death of a Madison County man found beaten and lying on a road.
The Jackson Sun reported 35-year-old Antwan Brooks of the Denmark community was pronounced dead at a hospital not long after police were called early Sunday.
Jackson Police Lt. Tyreece Miller said it was obvious Brooks was beaten, but the specific cause of his death will be determined by the state medical examiner in Nashville. Police did not know who beat Brooks after a friend dropped him off on Carolane Drive about 11 p.m. Saturday.
Miller said Brooks' death is the ninth homicide this year in the city. Tips can be phoned to Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-8477.
