HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) -- A man who pleaded guilty to shooting to death a western Kentucky mayor has been sentenced to more than 37 years in prison.
The Paducah Sun (http://bit.ly/XJSTZk) reports Thomas Lattus received the sentence in Fulton Circuit Court on Thursday.
Lattus pleaded guilty but mentally ill to murdering 68-year-old Hickman Mayor Charles Murphy last year.
He told investigators he shot Murphy because he believed Murphy had hurt his mother.
Hickman is a town of 2,500 people in southwestern Kentucky.
