CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A Hamilton County man faces federal weapons charges after allegedly selling at least 29 pistols to undercover federal agents over a year and a half period despite not having a gun license.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports 40-year-old Kevin Dawson told investigators he sold pistols and assault rifles at gun shows in Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville. He also said he traded a firearm with a man who is accused of later having killed a Chattanooga Police sergeant, according to court records.

On Wednesday, an undercover agent traded Dawson a Thompson .45-caliber fully automatic machine gun. Agents arrested him immediately afterward.

Dawson remains free on his own recognizance. Court records do not list an attorney for him and relatives contacted by the newspaper declined to comment.
