MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Memphis say an 18-year-old man told them he fired a gun to stop a fight on a high school campus.

According to The Commercial Appeal, police charged Quinton Guy with carrying a gun on school property, reckless endangerment and unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon.

Court documents state a track coach at Whitehaven High School told police several students got into a fight after school on Wednesday and that someone fired a shot. A fight victim said the bullet struck the ground near his foot.

The report states Guy admitted taking the gun onto school grounds and firing it, but maintained he did it to break up the fight. Police found a .38 caliber pistol underneath a bedroom dresser.
