Man charged in attack on Nashville officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Metro Nashville Police officer has been attacked as he tried to remove a man from a convenience store.

Police charged the suspect with attempted criminal homicide and assaulting a police officer after the incident early Thursday in East Nashville. An arrest affidavit cited by WSMV-TV stated Marquez Easley punched the officer in the face with a closed fist and then straddled him and tried to choke him.

Police said Easley, who is 22, pulled the microphone out of the officer's radio so he couldn't call for help.

A store clerk called 911 and other officers arrived quickly. The injured officer's name wasn't immediately released. He was treated at Vanderbilt University Hospital and released.

The Davidson County Jail didn't have information about whether Easley had an attorney.
