HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- A man who is serving five life sentences for the 2009 murders of his estranged wife and four other people in Tennessee will go on trial in Alabama in March on charges he killed also a Huntsville man.
The Huntsville Times reports that the trial of 32-year-old Jacob Shaffer is set for March 5 in Madison County. Shaffer is charged with capital murder in the July 2009 bludgeoning death of 50-year-old Sidney Wade Dempsey in Huntsville.
Prosecutors say after Dempsey's death, Shaffer hitched a ride to Lincoln County, Tenn., where he killed his estranged wife, three members of her family and a family friend the next day.
He was transferred last week from prison in Tennessee to the Madison County jail.
