Man shoots self after intrastate high speed chase

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a murder suspect shot himself in Bartow County after a high-speed chase that began in southwest Tennessee.

Bartow Sheriff Clark Millsap says the unidentified suspect reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour before being forced to stop near Lake Allatoona just before 3 a.m. The 80-plus-mile chase began in Hamilton County, Tenn.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/IFk7O5 ) the suspect, wanted for a murder in Fort Campbell, Ky., was airlifted to a regional hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
