KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--McGhee Tyson Airport made a big economic announcement Wednesday on their 75th anniversary.
The airport authority commissioned a study to see how much money they've been bringing to the area over the last 75 years.
McGhee Tyson combined with Island Home Airport add 616 million dollars annually to the area economy.
The study found the airports will add 9 point 2 billion dollars over the next 20 years.
In 2011, McGhee Tyson had record breaking months, and Frontier Airlines recently added cheap flights to Denver and Orlando.
McGhee Tyson Director of Marketing Beth Baker says, "The airport is a vital part of the community and we are moving toward new things. New airlines, new destinations and hopefully new travelers passing through our building."
The study which was done by the UT Center for Transportation Research found the airports add about 4,600 jobs to the regions.
