MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A mediation deadline is approaching in the litigation over a half-dozen suburban Memphis school districts.
School board elections were conducted in the cities Nov. 6, even though a federal judge could eventually rule that the new districts are illegal.
Memphis City Council attorney Allan Wade told The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/QI1htU ) attorney for the cities and the board have discussed trying to resolve their differences out of court before a Nov. 27 deadline.
Tom Cates, the attorney for the suburban governments, said the suburbs would enter the talks "in good faith."
The City Council voted to end the city schools and the city system is merging with the Shelby County schools.
