MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Memphis police say an officer has been charged with illegally obtaining a weight-loss drug.
The Memphis Police Department says 39-year-old officer Paula Jamerson surrendered to authorities Tuesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest on four counts of obtaining a controlled substance with a fraudulent prescription.
Police say Jamerson filled four fraudulent prescriptions for phentermine at pharmacies between December 2011 and this past August. Phentermine speeds weight loss by decreasing appetite.
Jamerson, who has been with the department since January 2000, has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
Jamerson was booked into jail Tuesday afternoon. Court records do not show if she has a lawyer.
