MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A Memphis police officer has shot and wounded a man who police say pointed a gun at him.
Police said the incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in a convenience store parking lot. A caller to 911 said three men were talking about robbing someone.
The department said an officer pulled into the parking lot and saw a male leaning into a car. The officer armed himself with his service pistol, but the subject took a handgun from the car and pointed it at the officer, who fired.
The suspect was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition. No names were released. The officer is on routine leave while the shooting is investigated.
