Memphis police say boy, 2, drowns in pool

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Memphis police say a 2-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a home.

Police say Courtland Thompson died at Methodist-North Hospital in Memphis on Wednesday.

A statement from the Memphis Police Department says the boy's mother had fallen asleep for about 30 minutes on Wednesday afternoon. When she awoke, she noticed that her twin sons were missing.

She found one of them immediately, but could not find the other.

During a search, relatives and police noticed that a window screen was partially removed.

Police say a relative found the boy in the pool and pulled him out.

An officer tried to resuscitate the boy before an ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital.
