MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A teenager and a Memphis Police officer have both survived shooting each other.
A news release from city police stated the officer spotted a vehicle reported stolen and saw a man fleeing from it late Wednesday afternoon. The 30-year-old officer gave chase on foot and police said the two struggled briefly before the suspect pulled a pistol and shot the police officer, who returned fire.
Both were taken to the Regional Medical Center.
Police said the 19-year-old suspect was in critical condition Wednesday night. The officer, who was reported to have been struck on a bullet-resistant vest, was not critically hurt.
Police found the vehicle the suspect was driving had been taken in a carjacking on Monday.
No charges were immediately filed and the officer was placed on administrative leave
