Memphis researcher to continue arthritis work

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis has received a grant totaling $378,000 to continue arthritis treatment research.

Dr. Karen Hasty, a professor of orthopedic surgery, got the grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, a subsidiary of the National Institutes of Health.

The research will be done over two years. The study will be titled "Early Detection and Quantification of Osteoarthritis (OA)."

The goal is to establish a way to identify early cartilage damage and assess its progression.
