Monterey celebrates new train depot museum

MONTEREY, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials say the new Monterey, Tenn., Depot Museum will be a centerpiece of the community.

Putnam County Commissioner John Ludwig said train depots are emerging as a community center place across the country, and the new one in Monterey will fill that role.

Sonja Farley, principal at Monterey High School, told the Cookeville Herald-Citizen that she's eager to have field trips to the museum, which celebrated its grand opening last weekend.

Monterey Mayor Jeff Hicks said the six-year project shows what can be accomplished when people work together.
