More unstable rock found, SR 16 remains closed

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee Route 16 will remain closed on Keith Springs Mountain in Franklin County for a couple of weeks.

A rockslide this week near mile 18 caused the Tennessee Department of Transportation to close a section of the highway, which carries about 800 vehicles per day.

TDOT says engineers found cracking and separating in another large section of rock adjacent to where the slide occurred about dawn on Monday.

In addition to cleaning up debris from the slide, a contractor will blast the unstable rock wall and haul away that stone.

The state hopes to have that section open April 12.
