CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A woman once charged with attempted murder of her child will face trial on a lesser charge in Chattanooga.
Monica Dawn Hammers was initially charged after a hospital observer said Hammers put a pillow over the face of her 4-year-old son, who was a patient at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported Hammers is scheduled for trial April 2 on a single charge of attempted aggravated child abuse.
The proceeding will be a retrial of Hammers. In September 2012, as she was going to trial, a judge ruled there wasn't sufficient evidence to substantiate the attempted murder charge. The jury deadlocked on attempted aggravated assault.
