NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Got an overdue library book, but anxious about the fines? The Nashville Public Library is currently forgiving overdue fines if patrons bring in food for the hungry.

The library's annual Food For Fines program runs through Jan. 20 at all branch locations throughout the city. The library will forgive $1 in fines for each can or package of food.

They are asking people to bring in peanut butter, canned chicken or tuna, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soups, cereal and pasta.

All the food donations will go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Last year, the drive amounted to 50,000 lbs of food donated for the hungry.
