NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Officials in Nashville are planning a second public bicycle program, this one aimed at commuters.
The bicycles are being supplied by Regions Bank and are part of a program to fight obesity in the city. As the city plans to roll out its new program this summer, it will look to larger cities for guidance. For instance, officials say they are still determining how much to charge.
David Campbell, co-coordinator of the city's anti-obesity effort, told The Tennessean that the program will allow people to rent bikes for 30-minute intervals from 20 different kiosks. He says they would be able to quickly cut through Nashville's urban core.
A free bike-sharing program offered at eight city parks has proved popular. Last year, GreenBikes were checked out 10,000 times.
