Nashville man arrested for 33 year old murder

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Metro Nashville Police detectives have arrested a man on a murder charge in a 33-year-old case.

According to The Tennessean, 60-year-old Freddie Lee Johnson was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in the 1979 death of Ethel Hethcote. On Jan. 29 of that year, police said, the 72-year-old Hethcote was found strangled inside her home, possibly as part of a robbery.

Johnson was indicted last week. Detectives said Johnson is a registered sex offender from a 1979 rape in Mississippi and has been arrested on more than 50 charges in Nashville.

He is being held on $500,000 bond.
