NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Nashville have charged a man in connection with a shooting death discovered because the victim's apartment door was open.
The Tennessean reported police charged 60-year-old Erroll L. Armstrong with criminal homicide in the death of 59-year-old Robert Mitchell, whose body was found Tuesday morning.
Investigators believe Mitchell had just answered his door when he was shot once in the lower part of his body. Police said they didn't yet have a motive, but had initially said it did not appear to be a robbery. Police said Armstrong confessed during questioning.
A neighbor at the apartments where Mitchell lived checked inside after seeing the door open about 5 a.m. Tuesday, saw the victim and called 911.
