NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Metro Nashville Police officer has shot and wounded a man who police say mortally wounded a teenager.
Police heard gunshots Monday evening and found 18-year-old Vincent Antonio Smith on the ground with gunshot wounds, near a public housing development. A news release stated Smith was able to give police information that led them to 19-year-old Samuel Maurice Parham minutes later.
Officer Nicholas Kulp chased Parham for several blocks until the suspect was boxed in by a fence.
Police said when Parham reached for the waistband of his pants, Kulp shot him in the upper arm. A handgun was recovered at the spot where Parham was shot. He was taken to a hospital for a non-critical wound. Smith died at the hospital.
