National Night Out focuses on crime and drug prevention

TENNESSEE - Folks in Knoxville and Rutledge are asked to join neighbors and local law enforcement for the National Night Out.

The city of Knoxville holding its National Night Out tonight to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. It also generates support for and participation in anti-crime programs while strengthening neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

The event was originally scheduled for august but was postponed due to excessive heat.

Folks in Rutledge will also be celebrating their national night out, which sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Rutledge Police Department.

National night out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 6:00 - 10:00 tonight residents in neighborhoods throughout Rutledge and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

Many neighborhoods throughout rutledge will gather at the Rutledge Middle School for a block party hosted by the Rutledge Police Department.

This event will be free to the public and refreshments and games for the children will be provided. There will be live entertainment for those in attendance also.
