Naturalization ceremony in Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--A big day at Maryville College.

165 people from 60 different countries became Americans.

Maryville native Senator Lamar Alexander on hand to congratulate the new citizens.

A special day for 165 people.

Right after the ceremony I caught up with two women who couldn't be happier to be living the American dream.

With wave of American pride, April Minton was the most excited new citizen.

April Minton from Bosnia says, "Since 2004 it took me four years but finally I'm here. Amen. So proud. So proud to be. Very exciting day."

She left war torn Bosnia 17 years ago.

Now, after years of hard work and studying, April flashes that all American smile.

"It's hard to describe the feeling when I was walking on stage. I felt like I was walking on the clouds."

She's not the only one.

Cindy Gleser is another.

She snapped pictures of Senator Lamar Alexander, a special guest on her special day.

Cindy Gleser says, "Oh my God so nervous. But so happy cause I had the opportunity to meet the senator and shake hands.'

Cindy left Peru 4 years ago for the land of the free.

"I love my country. i miss my country, but I'm very glad to be here and live here." says Cindy.

She holds her certificate close to her heart.

A day these new Americans will always remember.
