NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Emergency crews have responded to the scene of a plane crash in the Bellevue area. Officials said the level of damage was "devastating" and there were no survivors.
The crash happened before 5 p.m. Monday around 8209 Westchase Court, in an area behind the Bellevue YMCA.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane involved is a Gulfstream 690C. According to flight records, it took off from Grand Bend, Kansas at 2:45 p.m. and was due to arrive at John C. Tune airport just before 5 p.m.
Flight records also showed four people on board but the number of passengers could go as high as twelve.
The aircraft is registered to MidKansas Agri Company out of Pawnee, Kansas.
Metro Nashville Fire District Chief George Hickey described the scene on the ground as " a totally devastated area."
An eyewitness told the fire officials the plane made a hard right bank and then hit the ground.
Chief Hickey pointed out the pilot was able to miss hitting any homes or buildings in the highly populated area saving lives in the process.
Firefighters were able to get quickly get the plane's fire under control and put it out.
YMCA of Middle Tennessee's Senior Vice President of marketing & communications, Jessica Fain, said the building has been evacuated.
"Members have been evacuated as a safety precaution, and emergency personnel have been called to the scene," said Fain.
Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department have responded to the scene. They said there appears to be no survivors. No one has been transported from the scene.
Bellevue YMCA is only about 10 miles south of John C. Tune Airport where the plane was scheduled to land.
Officials are waiting for investigators from the FAA and the NTSB to arrive.
