CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Oreo the goat may have been rejected by the town of East Ridge, but he has been embraced by Chattanooga, where he will be grand marshal of a Main Street parade.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports Oreo has accepted the invitation to headline the MAINx24 parade on Dec. 1.

Oreo was recently evicted from his East Ridge home with the Viar family because the city does not allow farm animals as pets. But Oreo became something of a folk hero during the failed months-long effort to let him stay.

Festival co-chairman Ken Hays said in a news release the invitation was extended "as a token of love and support for this animal and the Viar family."

The Viars have said they will move to keep their pet goat.
