MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--People in Blount County are fighting mad.
They're saying no to more taxes or wasteful spending!
Dozens of angry people lined the street this afternoon protesting.
They're holding signs that read "more taxation, bad representation" and "no tax increase".
The protesters said there's a lot of wasteful spending in county government that needs to go away like cell phones, travel, and fully funded health benefits.
One woman said she might not be so upset if she felt her money was being spent correctly.
Citizens for Blount County's Future Spokeswoman Linda King says, "When we sit back and have to cut our budgets at home and see our money up here in our county government being wasted that's where we draw the line."
District 7 Commissioner Jim Folts says, "The tax protesters are right. County spending is growing at 2 and a half time their incomes. They're mad. They should be."
Commissioner Folts says he's tried 5 times to present data on the wasteful spending, but the commission voted down his spending.
Folts also points out that Blount County is spending 9 million dollars more than the average amount of other counties its size.
