WINCHESTER, Tenn. (AP) -- Franklin County authorities say they have developed "persons of interest" in the killing of a man near Cowan.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Sheriff Tim Fuller said 26-year-old Corey N. Matthews was unarmed. A preliminary autopsy report indicated he was beaten to death. Fuller said no potential crime scene other than the cornfield where Matthews' body was found is being investigated.
Police also say more than one person was involved in Matthews' death, but won't say why he was killed.
A Cowan police officer found Matthews' body just outside the city on March 24 after his family reported him missing.
Matthews' funeral was Friday in Winchester. His obituary stated Matthews is survived by his wife and two daughters.
