Police: Man shoots wife, has standoff with authorities

GRAINGER COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - A grainger county man is expected to be arraigned this morning after a weekend standoff with police.

It happened Saturday at a home in the 1500 block of Roach Road in Rutledge.

Police say 44-year old Samuel Clifton Thompson shot his wife in the face then barricaded himself in his home.

He fired off several rounds while inside. After a six hour standoff, deputies raided the home and arrested Thompson as he fought back.

He is charged with Domestic Assault and Aggravated Domestic Assault with a Firearm.

His wife's condition has not been released,
