CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Clarksville Police Spokesman Jim Knoll told The Leaf-Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/RCE1Ms) the $3,000 Marmoset monkey named Gizzy was emaciated and its fur had been shaved to alter its appearance when Petersburg police found it after an anonymous tip.
The Clarksville owners traveled to Petersburg to identify and claim Gizzy on Tuesday.
Knoll said the monkey likely would not have been recovered if not for media coverage of the theft.
Gizzy's owners told the paper they came home on Sept. 28 to find their front door pried open. The door to Gizzy's cage also was open, and only remnants of the french fries Gizzy had eaten the night before were left there.
