MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A strike by union sanitation workers has a private waste hauler scrambling to service about 37,000 customers in areas of Memphis.
Republic Services' regional manager Roger Lawrence told The Commercial Appeal the strike surprised him. He thought a couple of issues were being negotiated.
Striker Joseph Wyatt, who was picketing on Monday, said Teamsters Union employees hope the strike is settled quickly. About 180 union workers are on strike.
The company said service will be maintained, but could be delayed.
