COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) -- The stealing of a commercial-grade lawn mower from a middle school is the latest in a series of lawn equipment thefts in Columbia.
The Daily Herald quotes a Columbia Police Department affidavit in reporting the theft of the mower as well as other lawn care equipment from a storage shed at Whitthorne Middle School. A maintenance worker noticed the shed was open Monday and discovered the theft.
School officials gave police video surveillance footage that shows the door open and a light on inside late Saturday night.
Police said dozens of lawn mowers and other tools have been reported stolen in Columbia since February. They encourage residents to keep equipment secure and write down serial numbers for such tools.
