ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Rogersville businessman is facing up to six years in prison after being accused of shooting himself during a fake robbery.
The Kingsport Times-News reports that the Hawkins County grand jury issued an indictment Wednesday against Timmy Wade Mann charging him with one felony count of filing a false police report.
Police say the 45-year-old businessman owed $200,000 to customers and suppliers, and faked the robbery and the attack in an effort to generate sympathy.
Authorities say Wade told them that a man and a woman entered his now-defunct store, Southern Quality Metal, last September and demanded money before the female shot him. He sustained a non-life threatening wound on his left side above his waist.
