OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Director of Schools of Oak Ridge Schools Thomas Bailey released a statement on Wednesday pertaining to the removal of longtime Willow Brook Elementary School principal Mardee Miller.
"Tennessee law assigns the authority to the Director of Schools to make personnel decisions regarding the placement of all school employees," said Bailey.
"After considering a number of concerns, it is my opinion that a change in leadership at this time is in the beneficial interest of the students, staff, and parents at Willow Brook School," he continued.
Bailey stressed that Miller had not been fired and the district has made no moves to fire her. He also pointed out that like all licensed, professional employees, she holds tenure as a teacher.
Miller worked at Willow Brook for 7 years.
Susan Armstrong of the central office will take over as principal until the position is filled.
