Sen. Bob Corker swamps rivals in fundraising

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee has amassed campaign funds that far outstrip those of his challengers.

At the end of December, filings with the Federal Election Commission show the Republican senator had a balance of nearly $7.4 million, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

At the same time, the six other GOP candidates seeking the nomination had a combined $15,172 on hand.

Tea party challenger Zach Poskevich led third-party opponents with $9,375 in funds.

The Tennessee Democratic Party has not fielded a party hopeful. The deadline for candidate qualifying is April 5.

Corker, a former Chattanooga mayor, defeated then-U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr., a Democrat, in the 2006 general election to gain the office.
