NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A special prosecutor has been appointed to review the investigation into the shooting death of a Dickson County Sheriff's deputy after his widow raised questions about whether other officers were involved.
Deputy Keith Bellar was shot in June 2011 by 27-year-old Jason Eggenberg in a domestic dispute. Eggenberg then killed himself.
But his widow, Brandi Bellar, told WTVF-TV in Nashville that Eggenberg may have been receiving taunting text messages from at least two local law enforcement officers prior to the domestic incident.
Dickson Police Chief Rick Chandler told the station Wednesday that District Attorney General Dan Alsobrooks has agreed to step aside and asked for a special prosecutor to investigate the circumstances that led to the deputy's death.
