JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Johnson City area law enforcement officers will participate Friday morning in the Special Olympics Torch Run.
Officers from Washington, Unicoi and Carter counties will transport the torch from the Johnson City Police Department to the East Tennessee State University Mini-Dome where the Special Olympics will be held.
The law officers have carried the torch for several years as part of the opening ceremonies. The torch will be handed to one of the participants, who will assist with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron to signify the beginning of the games.
