ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) -- A state transportation survey crew has found skeletal remains along a Carter County road.
Sheriff Chris Mathes told the Johnson City Press his department is investigating the discovery as a homicide. Mathes said a wallet containing identification was found with the body, but the TBI was consulted and dental records will be used to verify the person's identity.
The remains were removed by Wednesday night and were being taken to the University of Tennessee for examination.
Mathes said his department has heard from several sheriffs' offices with open missing persons cases
