State Jobless Rate Dips Below 8%

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The March unemployment rate in Tennessee has dipped just below 8 percent.

Karla Davis, commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development, said Thursday the rate fell a tenth of a point to 7.9 percent. It was the eighth straight month of decline, and the rate is at its lowest level since November 2008.

The national figure for March was 8.2 percent, down 0.1 percentage points from February.

Davis said the state lost jobs in March, but the number of unemployed declined at a faster rate.
