NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- One hundred students from across Tennessee will compete Friday in Nashville in the state-level competition of the 24th annual National Geographic Bee.
The fourth- to eighth-graders will vie at Fisk University. The winner will represent Tennessee in the national competition May 22-24 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. Fifty-thousand dollars in college scholarships will be at stake, with the winner getting $25,000, the second-place finisher $15,000 and the third-place finisher $10,000. Additionally, the winner gets an expense-paid trip to the Galapagos Islands.
The final round will be moderated by Alex Trebek of "Jeopardy." It will air on the National Geographic Channel and on public television stations.
