CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Clarksville say a man who tried to rob a business was wrestled to the ground and held by store employees until police arrived.
Clarksville Police Department spokesman Jim Knoll said Thomas Lee Franklin of Woodlawn approached the manager outside the store and showed a gun. The manager grabbed the 23-year-old Franklin and other store employees jumped in to disarm him and pin him on the ground.
When police arrived, they noticed a package outside the store and called the Montgomery County Bomb Squad. The device was found to be an active explosive.
After the incident Saturday night, Franklin was charged with criminal attempt to commit aggravated robbery and have prohibited weapons.
Franklin was held early Monday at the Montgomery County Jail which has no records of inmates' attorneys.
