JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WVLT/AP) -- A man on trial for a murder nearly seven years ago has spoken in his own defense.
44-year-old Poncho Delgado told the court on Tuesday that he didn't know victim Robert Curtis and wasn't at Curtis' apartment.
Delgado said he spend the night of May 25, 2006, the night Curtis was fatally stabbed, drinking and smoking crack cocaine.
Prosecutors say Delgado killed Curtis and set his house on fire to try to cover up the homicide.
Judge Robert Cupp recessed the trial at midafternoon. It was to resume Wednesday morning with attorneys' closing arguments.
Delgado is charged with first-degree murder. The state is not seeking the death penalty.
