Suspect, 2 officers shot in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Memphis Police officers and a suspect have been shot in a residential neighborhood.

Sgt. Karen Rudolph says the shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Monday after two officers from the Tillman Station responded to a call about an armed mental patient. Rudolph says the officers were ambushed and shot. They returned fire, striking the suspect.

Police say the suspect was critically wounded and was taken to the Regional Medical Center. The officers received less serious wounds and were taken to Baptist East Hospital.

Neighbors said they heard shooting early Monday.

No names were immediately released.
