CANNON COUNTY, Tenn. (WTVF) – A Nashville man has been arrested for the second time after investigators said he falsely accused two Cannon County Sheriff’s detectives of assaulting him while in custody.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 50-year-old Billy J. King, Jr. was initially arrested by the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department for vandalism and possession of a weapon by a felon on April 3.
After being released on bond, he immediately made accusations that he had been assaulted by Cannon County detectives while in their custody. He told TBI agents that two detectives had beaten him in the department’s interview room.
Investigators determined those accusations were untrue.
On May 23, the Cannon County Grand Jury returned an indictment for King, charging him with one count of False Report to an Officer.
TBI agents arrested King Tuesday when he returned to court on the original charges. King was held at the Cannon County Jail on $8,000 bond.
