JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- The Jackson Police Department is equipping its officers with electronic stun devices and six weeks of training ended with them being shocked.
Lt. Mike Siler told trainees on Tuesday that the experience was going to be very painful, but said they made the right decision in volunteering to receive the shock, according to The Jackson Sun.
The trainer told the officers they would be hit with 50,000 volts of electricity, but at low amperage. He said the Taser weapons cause the person stunned to lose muscle control and it scrambles their thoughts momentarily.
He cautioned trainees they would feel like they'd gone ten rounds in a prize fight.
Officer Rochell Staten volunteered to be stunned and said she felt it throughout her body, but her recovery was very rapid.
