Telling the story of Jonesborough with new brand

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee's oldest town is working on a brand new brand.

Jonesborough officials are refining plans to market the city as "Storytelling Capital of the World."

The Johnson City Press reported several designs for a new logo were shown at a recent meeting of the Tree and Appearance Board.

The city now markets itself as "Historic Jonesborough."

Jimmy Neal Smith, who founded the International Storytelling Festival held in Jonesborough said the town's history is important, but the reference to storytelling sets it apart.

Town administrator Bob Browning said the idea of a new brand originated a few years ago in professional marketing and development plans that also brought about a new streetscape coming soon to the downtown historic district.
