MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A criminal complaint says a Tennessee National Guardsman accused of shooting three fellow Guard members at an armory was being relieved of duty because of alleged misconduct.

The complaint written by FBI Special Agent Matthew Ross says Sgt. 1st Class Amos Patton was ordered to go to the armory on Thursday to be notified that he was being relieved of duty.

The complaint says Patton was ordered to return government equipment that was in his vehicle outside the building. Ross says that when Patton returned, he had a "fanny pack" with him.

When Patton tried to access the pack, one Guardsman yelled "gun." The complaint says Patton then opened fire, hitting three Guardsmen.

Ross says Patton then ran from the building before he was subdued by another Guardsman.
